MECS Newsletter 2 November

MECS News Letter 2 November

Good Morning from a cool cloudy Mokopane

As the countdown towards the end of the year gathers paste, I have a few things that I would like to share with you.

The 2019 calendar is available on the website for your information. Please make use of this opportunity to plan for next year. Please consult this to check on the arrangements for the start of the 2019 academic year

Our Foundation phase has participated in an excursion to Polokwane to see the dinosaur exhibition. I am sure they will have a wonderful time and we will post pictures on our Facebook Page when they return. Also with the Foundation Phase, three of our learners will be participating in the Grade R Science Expo on the 8 November.

Our central quad is undergoing a face-lift with new paving and flowerbeds being added. I will post photos when it has been completed. This will be a wonderful addition to the aesthetics of our grounds and part of our ongoing program to upgrade the school facilities.

The Matric exams are going well and our Matrics are focused and hoping for another year of excellent results. It is a stressful time for them and let us give them as much support and encouragement as possible.

We are planning to bring out a school newspaper at the end of the year, which is a staff-pupil project. We will be selling some advertising in this publication and would ask interest parents to contact Mrs Tiech for more details should you be interested. We are also looking for a name for this publication and will approach our learners for input on this.

Another new initiative is to allocate school houses to facilitate some intra school competition and to boost school spirit. Our challenge is to allocate names to these houses, which are appropriate to the history and ethos of the school. Any ideas?

I am happy to report that the bullying awareness program is proving to be both worthwhile and successful and we will be running this through until the end of the year.

Our enrollments for 2019 are very positive and we looking forward to welcoming a new cohort of learners and parents into the MECS family. Whilst the enrolments are significant we still have some places in most grades (other than grades 11 and 12) and would be happy to accept more learners into our school.

Some important dates
Grade 10, 11 exams start 5th November
• SGB meeting 7 November
• Grade 7 to 9 exams start 9th November
• Grade 6 orientation 26 November
• Aptitude tests Grade 11 on the 26 and 27 November

Have a good weekend

Brian
