Welcome back to the start of what promises to be an exciting and challenging 2020. Certainly, we look eagerly look forward to the coming months that will be filled with academic, sporting and cultural events that will all contribute to making 2020 a rich and rewarding year. A special welcome to our matric group of 2020 who will be preparing themselves for their final examinations in November. For the, the year will be both bitter sweet, the end of their school careers but at the same time, the start of a new chapter in their lives as they move on to University, work or travel.
I would like to welcome a few new faces to the staff room. Bianca Zandberg will be taking up a new positon in the admin office and we wish her well here, whist, Rebecca Moraka and Marine Swanepoel will be looking after our Grade RR’s and assisting in the Foundation Phase. I am confident that they will become valued and loyal members of the team.

Prefects
Its with sadness that we had to bid farewell to our Head girl elect Jaysha Zamaan as the family are moving from Mokopane. We wish her every success for the future. However, we are proud to announce that our Thato Mathopa as Head Girl and Mmatapa Ramaahlama as deputy Head girl. We wish them along with the rest of the prefect body, everything of the best for the coming year.
Dropping Off and Picking Up Learners
We still have a huge problem with the dropping off and collecting of learners. Some parents/ drivers just don’t co-operate and cause havoc by parking at the wrong place to offload and to pick up learners. The only drop off and pick up zone is in Domba Street. Please DO NOT stop in front of the school in Kiepersol Street or near the scholar patrol crossing to drop off or pick up learners. This causes a congestion of traffic and increases the risk of injuries due to accidents which could have been prevented if the rules were obeyed. Please assist in this matter.
Grade 8 Orientation week
The arrival of our Grade 8’s into the high school is an important occasion for our learners. It is a long standing tradition that they are engaged in a structure orientation program which will start on Monday. The purpose of this program is allow the learners to bond as a group and with the prefects and also to to get to know how the high school operates.
“Trolley Suitcases”
We would like to discourage the use of the “trolley suitcases” We have found that they lead to congestion in the classrooms and are difficult to move up and down the stars between lessons. Its far better to make use of the lockers and a small school bag to carry books between lessons.

Food for thought
“Education…is not to reform students, or to amuse them, or to make them expert technicians. It is to unsettle their minds, widen their horizons, inflame their intellects, and teach them to think straight, if possible.” — Robert M. Hutchins
