Dear Parents, Friends, Staff and Pupils

The recent rains have brought a gentle green glow to the gardens and the playing field in front of the school.  These rains signify a hope for rebirth and optimism for new beginnings and a gradual return to some kind of normality, and are most welcomed.

This week has indeed been quite a busy time.  We began the week by hosting a Matric Farewell Dinner, and followed that with the Matric Valediction Ceremony and  on Thursday the 15th of October the Matric’s officially began their examinations.  On behalf of all the staff at the school I would like to wish them everything of the best.

Matric Farewell Dinner

I would like to begin by thanking Miss Durrah Cachalia and Mrs Esmarie Voges for arranging and coordinating the Matric farewell dinner held at the splendidly decorated Shikwaru Bushveld Lodge.  The students and teachers who attended were treated to an evening of reflection, of laughter and of heart-warming speeches.  It was certainly a memorable occasion and has given our outgrowing Matric’s a memory of their time at the school to cherish for years to come.

Valediction

The Matric Dinner was followed the next day by the Matric Validation and Prize-giving Ceremony.  It is at this occasion that we acknowledge and reward our graduating class for their efforts throughout the year.  Our head prefects, Jovanne Teixeira and Thato Mathopa spoke with eloquence and purpose and their words will be remembered for months to come. The guest speaker Mr. Andrew Cook spoke of values, purpose, and giving back to those who have made a difference to the lives of this graduating class particularly.

Matric examinations

The Matric’s start with a year-end examinations on Thursday. I need to remind parents and our pupils that our own internal year-end exams will start shortly.  the September assessments have certainly shown us that many pupils have had difficulty in keeping up to speed during the shutdown.  Although limited time remains, there is still an opportunity to make improvement in many areas.

Text Book return

Please note that with the start of the year end internal examinations, students must return their text books. Missing or damaged text or library books will attract a R250 penalty for each item.
