Newsletter 18 January 2019

Dear Parents, Staff and Friends

Welcome Back

The new academic year has started with a surprise and welcome influx of new learners. Our enrolment is significantly higher than expected and this is most welcomed. It certainly sends out a message that MECS is becoming a school of choice. The school is almost full with only a few places in one or two grades.

Our Primary School learners. Day 1

As your new principal, I would like to welcome all our new parents and learners and will do so again formally next week at our official welcome events. Our wish is that you enjoy the journey through school as part of the MECS family.

There are quite a few new initiatives that we are embarking on this year and we will say more about this as the term unfolds. On Friday we will allocate our staff and learners into School Houses and this is certainly the start of growing inter house indemnity and competition. Many of our staff members have worked hard to make this happen and deserve our thanks. The new houses are named after mythical figures – Phoenix, Dragons and Griffins. House T-shirts in either yellow, blue or green will be available shortly.

I would also like to congratulate our matric class and all our teachers for another 100% pass rate. Our results are impressive as not only did our top candidates do well but importantly, we were able to ensure that all our candidates were able to pass the matric examination.

We have two new faces in the Foundation Phase and we welcome Mrs Feaaza Luhri as our new Grade R teacher and Ms Shamima Aphiri who is teaching our Grade RR class.

Important notice

Our numbers have increased significantly and all people dropping off learners at school must do so in the designated areas. This is to ensure the safety of the learners and the efficient movement of traffic. Please comply with this request.

The traffic rules in the school are there for the safety of all children – they can only be effective if there is 100% buy in from ALL parents and drivers!

A busy road – day 1

Request for sponsorship

As our extramural program continues to grow, we want to be proud of our learners who represent the school. we urgently need a sponsor for our junior girls netball uniforms who will be playing in a number of local competitions. We are looking for a R4000 sponsorship in return we will display your brand on the junior team netball uniform for two years. Please contact Rieta at the foundation Phase if you are able to assist

Food for thought

“Condemn none, if you can stretch out a helping hand, do so. If you cannot, fold your hands, bless your brothers, and let them go their own way.”

Enjoy the weekend

Brian
