Dear Parents, Staff and friends

Greetings form a cloudy and damp MECS. I must apologies for not being able to get a newsletter out last week. Various factors contrived to prevent me from doing this, power outages, theft and failed backup drives being some of the contributing factors. However, I am back on track and will continue to keep you updated on events at the school

Inter-house Athletics

Last Friday we held our first ever Inter-House Athletics competition. As there was no past frame of reference for hosting such an event, we had to start from scratch. It was without doubt quite a challenge, but at the end of the day we managed to deliver a fun filled, excitement driven, action packed morning of athletics. Our pupils were committed to participation and must be congratulated for the way in which they put in a huge effort for their houses. The teachers must also be thanked for all their hard working leading up to the event as well as the effort put in on the day. A special thanks to Mr Learnmore Nkomo who was the organiser, to Hoerskool Piet Potgieter for making their field and facilities available and our two sponsored trophies from Stands Stationery for the Spirit Cup and Mr Muhammed Mosam for the Inter- House cup.

All three house competed with great enthusiasm and the winner of both the Spirit Cup and the Inter-House trophy was the yellow house Gryphons. Well done to you and well done to all who participated.

V Ball

In the past we have held the V-Ball at school. Its always been a fun evening enjoyed by our learners. Uncertainly regarding weather has always been a problem so this year we have moved the event off site. We will host a special evening in a magic venue. I will give an update in this in next weeks newsletter.

Valentines day

Valentine’s Day, also called Saint Valentine’s Day, is a day on which we  are offered the opportunity to celebrate love and friendship. This day of love was celebrated by our students. In addition, learner’s have the opportunity to showcase their love of fashion, either through pops of pink, rows of red and wonders of white. The spirit and enthusiasm surrounding the celebration was contagious.

This year we have encouraged our pupils to celebrate the sharing of love and affection in the spirit of Valentine’s day by dressing an appropriate costume and colour. The foundation Phase really stepped up to plate here and were able to be a colourful and happy band of people on the day.

Payment of fees

The timely payment of school fees is essential to the sustainability of the school. It is only with great reluctance that we find ourselves in a positon where we have to remove pupils from classrooms due to the non-payment of fees. However, currently we are in a very sound position regarding our debtors account and would like to thank all our parents who have made the effort to keep their accounts up to date. By doing so you are making sure that we can offer a quality education to your children.

Food for thought

Have a wonderful weekend

Brian
