Testing/Examinations results

I had many conversations with children over the last week or so and it is sad to hear how fearful they are about getting their results. It sounds a little like their value or self-worth is measured by the marks on their report.

At MECS we strive to educate the whole child. Dealing with disappointments, identifying mistakes we made, acknowledging strengths and weaknesses are part of the educational journey. Conversations about the mistakes and planning to implement different strategies could work wonders in motivating our children for the next term. Asking the following questions might be helpful: What did you learn about yourself and your exam writing skills during the Prelims of testing program? How do you cope under pressure? What do you need to do differently for the end of year exam?

At times children struggle to see the difference between their parents being disappointed in their behaviour and not loving them. Love is unconditional and bad marks are temporary and your support in helping your child overcome the obstacle, and improve their marks, is invaluable.

Nothing says it better than a hug:

  • Hugging boosts self-esteem and brings about a sense of security in a way no language can e Helps the body’s immune system
  • A hug says—I care for you, it cures depression and reduces stress
  • It lowers blood pressure

Enjoy your break and if you are travelling, please drive safely.
