Thoughts on Education
At MECS we have to prepare out learners for life beyond school. This means that we not only teach but also educate. Knowledge is only a part of education. The critical component is what is done with that knowledge, how it is processed and applied. To this end we need to focus on our senior primary learners and introduce them to the skills that they will need for this approach to teaching and learning.
The mission statement of the International Baccalaureate “aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programs of international education and rigorous assessment. These programs encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.” Certainly we need to embrace this approach to education and work towards developing the 21st century critical skills in all our learners.
Food for thought

Enjoy your weekend
