Dear Parents and Friends

This has been without doubt one of the most difficult weeks that we have had to endure in the last three or four years. The sudden passing of young Thabo Senoamadi has impacted on all of us in so many ways. It was exceptionally difficult to carry on with the normal teaching and learning program in the high school under these conditions. However, we made a decision to keep the school open and to continue as best we can with our teaching and learning. For many the school remains a safe space for our students.

Thursday was particularly difficult as myself and a number of staff and students attended the funeral. What I do find distressing was that a number of students took it upon themselves to abuse the situation to their own advantage by making excuses to leave school early. I do not expect this from our students and where parents supported this, I am even more disappointed.

We start next week afresh and focused on the school academic and extra-mural calendar. I remind you that the assessment series begins next week. The year is rolling out at pace and we cannot afford distractions. I remain concerned that the specter of a Covid third wave remains and if one notes what is happening globally, we need to be more vigilant now than ever. India with an average of 350 000 new infections and 2000 deaths daily and  Brazil have been particularly badly hit and conditions in both countries are nothing less than tragic.

Please remember the parent evenings next week.
