Newsletter 14 August 2020
Dear Parents, Staff and Friends
The long weekend break was most welcomed and I believe that we all benefited from the extra day and the chance to unwind and relax for a while. Certainly there was an air of increased focus when school returned on Tuesday morning. Let’s not forget the holiday was to celebrate the importance and the role that women play in our lives and in our country. Thank you to all those wonderful ladies who contribute in so many ways and on so many levels

Reflections Looking back over the last four months, I am proud to be able to acknowledge the efforts by everyone to keep the school functional and effective. The vast majority of our learners are on track for the year end assessments and we will have successfully delivered the 2020 academic year. Our success in this is reflected in a significant number of applications for 2020. It’s clearly evident that people are recognizing our efforts and realise that we are becoming a school of choice.

Examinations
This is an important reminder that examinations start on 3 September. All learners will have to attend examination sessions in September and November for promotional requirements. Failure to meet promotion criteria will require re application for admission in 2021
The examination timetable has been published and issued to the learners and is available at – https://mecschool.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/SEPTEMBER-2020-EXAMINATION-TIME-TABLE.pdf
If your child did not receive an Exam time table yet, they may collect one from the office
A reminder that these Sept/Nov examinations outcome will determine pass/fail. And that failures will have to reapply for admission to the school.
School fee payments
There are still a number of parents who are in arrears with their school fee payments and who have not contacted us in this regard. Whilst we are understanding of the current economic crisis we need to budget for the sustainable financial operation of the school and this requires full parental cooperation.
Matric Parents please note: Gr 12 outstanding IEB exam fees due before the end August.
There are however a vast number of parents who continue making payments and for this we are grateful and value their ongoing support. Together we will grow this school to new heights.
Applications 2021
All applications for 2021 are now open and we have experienced a significant increase in applications for 2021. Some parents elected to remove their children and re-enrol for 2021. If you are such a parent, please ensure that you apply in time as we are rapidly filling available spaces.

- You will have received a WhatsApp messages regarding at school, online and non or minimal participation. Please contact the school if you have queries regarding this.
- The Foundation Phase has received its fiber connection and is now in a position to add immense value to the online work that is already being delivered. Many thanks to Satsoft who made a massive effort to assist us here.
- A reminder that School ends 23 Sept and opens 5 October.
- We have a need for spray bottles for our sanitizing program. Due to the high volume of use, we find that trigger mechanisms break regularly. If you have any empty detergent spray bottles at home, please send them to school.
We have recently had a few 2019 Matrics come in to visit. It is clearly evident that their MECS education has given them an edge on getting ahead at university and in life in general. Certainly they are coping well in the real world. We are really proud of them and happy to see them.
Finally, our Grade 12’s are busy preparing for upcoming prelims. We wish them the best as well as rest of learners for exams.

Food for thought
My food for thought is a quote from Erma Bombeck and one which I found particularly poignant.
“Don’t confuse fame with success. Madonna is one; Helen Keller is the other.”
