Newsletter 14 May 2021

I begin by wishing all our Muslim families Eid Murabak   on this wintery Friday morning. May your Friday be spent in celebration with friends and family.

The Christian faith also celebrated Ascension Day on Thursday, an important event in their calendar. To one and all, I wish peace and joy at this time.

On a more serious note, we hear stirrings of an approaching third wave of the COVID pandemic and again I urge you all to be extra careful at this time. We are all struggling with pandemic fatigue but have to rise above this and ensure our safety and that of our families and friends.

Academic Concerns

Grade 10 Parents

We are currently addressing a serious negative attitude issue with our current Grade 10 group. Collectively they have a very poor work ethic and are generally unmotivated and largely unresponsive to academic expectations. I will be addressing this with them as a group but as parents, you need to be aware of the following;

  • Our school is currently at capacity and we anticipate that the majority of the Grade 9 group will be promoted to Grade 10 at the end of this year.
  • Condonations for any grade 10 pupils are unlikely as we will have had sufficient academic time to cover the majority of the work required for promotional assessments.
  • Pupils who fail will have to reapply to repeat.
  • Applications will only be considered depending on available space,  past performance and attitude to academics

We will be calling a meeting of all Grade 10 parents shortly to address this situation in person. This date will be communicated un due course

Grade12 Parents

We are also aware of a tendency of erratic school attendance for some Grade 12 pupils. Given the importance of their final school year, this is unacceptable and we will now be contacting parents immediately of all Grade 12 pupils who are not at school and keeping a detailed record of all absenteeism.

We will also be calling a meeting of all Grade 12 parents shortly to address this situation in person. This date will be communicated in due course

Archery

Congratulations to our archers who participated in a very successful competition last Saturday. Many thanks to Mrs Lombard and our staff who hosted the tournament at MECS.

As winter approaches, please stay safe and be healthy

Warmest regards
