Dear Parents, Staff and Friends

I write this newsletter following the President’s address last night in which he talked of an optimistic future if we all pull together and make it happen.  In the same vein, we at school talk of an optimistic future and are working towards a return to normality.  To this end we do need your support and commitment to the ongoing sustainability and growth of the school and look forward to a bright and positive 2022.

I begin with reminding you of the golf day which is to be held on the 17th of March this year.  This is an inaugural event and we hope it will become something of a permanent fixture in future. we are rapidly completing the sponsorship of holes and already have a number of teams that have been entered for the competition.  I urge parents who are golfers or who have businesses which would like to sponsor a team or a hole  to please do so as soon as possible .

We want to run an event that is not as much about fundraising but about a fun-filled day that sends out a message to all that we as a school and a town we are putting the COVID  pandemic behind us and believe in a bright an better future. Golf days are traditionally about fundraising and require a level of sponsorship to be successful, but for us success also means bringing together people from all sectors of our town to join in a day that will celebrate a bright future for all.

We will also be running our inter-house athletics competition on the 4th March and ask that you ensure that Primary School and High School learners have an appropriately coloured T-shirt to take part in this t event. We would like to avoid being too specific regarding the shirts to minimise costs but they will require either a blue or yellow or green T- shirt on that day.  The event will be held on  4 March at the HPP athletics track and is to be seen as a normal school day.  We will run registration and all COVID protocols will be in place.  The event is scheduled to start at 7.30 am finish by 12:00 pm. Afterwards the learners may return home

Drop off and collection

Primary and High school parents who deliver and collect pupils to and from the school will notice changes that we are making on the pavement outside the gates. When completed it will allow parents to safely pull off the road when delivering and collecting pupils. More information regarding this will be sent as the project unfolds.

Social Media Workshop Gr 4 – 12

We ran a very successful social media workshop on Friday.  The Primary school and High school learners were given the opportunity to ask questions while at the same time given information on the dangers that the abuse of social media might bring.  I would like to thank Mrs Neethling for arranging this event.

Mountain Biking

I was recently approached by the mountain biking club which is active in the town who are reaching out to any of our learners who would like to participate in mountain biking and indeed enter races which will be held in term 3.  I will be posting more information regarding this as and when I receive it and look forward to some of our pupils taking part in this initiative.

I have also been approached by a martial arts instructor who would like to offer martial arts lessons at the school and in return will be running workshops for all grades on basic self-defence. This will also be offered to the staff who are interested.

A reminder that the planetarium workshop will be held on Thursday the 24th of February at the school  and that the ECD and Foundation Phase Athletics Day will be held on our sports field on Friday the 25th of February.
